Sample Package Every theatrical production is unique. Its promotional materials should match its tone and the vision of its director. For Layton High School's production of Aida that meant accentuating two things: the show's Egyptian setting and the passionate love story at its center. In consultation with the director concerning the former, we considered sphinxes, scarab beetles, and winged goddesses before settling on the highly iconic Eye of Ra, seen hovering over a sandy pyramid. The love story is hinted at in two ways: with the use of deep reds in the sunset and by prominently featuring a lyric from the show ("Every Story is a Love Story"). This design made a stunning contrast to the colorless flyers in local businesses where it was posted.
What works in 16 million colors doesn't always translate to 2, however. For the t-shirt design, the Eye of Ra was retained in 2 colors on the front, and production information was moved to the back. The design was very popular with the teenage cast members, which resulted in frequent wearing and increased exposure for the production.
A few simple modifications made the poster design suitable for use as a program cover and in printed advertisements.

What was their bottom line? The commerical designers we consulted quoted prices ranging from $300-500 for poster designs alone. Had LHS gone this route, their price total would have been around $1200-1500. In contrast, Drama Doodles delivered all of the above for just over $800. There was another benefit to this package.
